Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Customer 2 Care, a call centre company operating as subcontractor for Contact Centre Sud for services provided to Wind Tre, sent a dismissal letter to all the 157 employees of its office located in L'Aquila (Abruzzo).
The dismissals are connected to Contact Centre Sud's decision, taken on 20 February 2020, to stop the subcontracting agreement with Customer 2 Care and resume control of the activity.
Negotiations with the trade unions and with local institutions aiming at finding alternative solutions failed on 6 March when the company left the negotiating table declaring that, given the change in circumstances and the withdrawal of Contact Centre Sud from the decision to rehire the workers, it was now free from the commitments previously taken.
