Deutsche Telekom, one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Europe, is closing 99 or approximately one in five of its high street outlets across Germany by the end of 2021, which will lead to the loss of 800 positions within the company. The restructuring programme does not envisage direct dismissals. The company will offer affected staff severance payments, partial retirement or other employment opportunities in the group. The decision is motivated by customers' preference for online support services.
In 2019, the company had around 94,100 employees and 504 shops in Germany. Deutsche Telekom headquarters is located in Bonn.
