The Royal British Legion, the charity which supports current and former members of the British Armed Forces, has announced that it will close its four break centres, making 153 of their employees redundant following the compulsory consultation period. The centres are located in seaside towns in England and Northern Ireland.
Representatives of the charity explained that the restructuring is the outcome of a strategic review of their activities and the cost savings will be used to provide other essential services.
The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921 and employs 1,600 people. Break centres provide short all-inclusive holidays free of charge, to help members of the Armed Forces community to socialise with people who share their experiences.
