Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Alberto Sousa, Lda, owner of the Eureka brand, dismissed 150 workers and announced that it will declare insolvency. The documentation required for the unemployment benefit was not provided by the employer. The company had already announced the closure of 13 stores in Portugal, but did not announce the closure of the factory, located in Vizela.
The company is preparing to present insolvency for economic reasons.
The Union of Footwear of Minho and Trás-os-Montes has already made a complaint to the Authority for Working Conditions.
About two years ago, the financial difficulties of Alberto Sousa, Lda were known: debts amounting to €22 million and 622 creditors led the company to a Special Revitalization Process.
