Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sanitary ceramics producer Laufen will cut 130 jobs in its production site in Wilhelmsburg, in the second quarter of 2020. Due to pricing pressure, the occupancy rate at the site has sunken below 50% of the capacity. Laufen will relocate parts of the production to its production site in Gmunden, Upper Austria, and the rest to other European locations. In conjunction with the worker's council, a social plan will be negotiated and the early warning system of the jobcentre will be activated by the end of March.
The Swiss company Laufen belongs to the Spanish Roca-Group and employs around 2,500 people around the world.
