Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The adhesive tape company Vibac announced the opening of a collective dismissal procedure for the 120 employees of its production plant in Vinci, in the Florence metropolitan area, which the company wants to close.
The announcement came very unexpectedly after the recent agreement on the relaunch of the company and the investment of over €2 million for the purchase of a new production line.
Right after the company's announcement, the trade unions called for an assembly of the workers aimed at discussing collective responses to the company's plan.
Vinci's production facility was taken over in 2011, when Vibac bought it from the now bankrupt Syrom, a competitor in the adhesive tape sector.
