Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company of energy materials and demolition Maxam, mainly manufacturing weapons for defence and explosives for mining and public works, has announced an adjustment plan affecting at least 100 employees. Affected workers are all those of central offices in Madrid together with employees of other centres of Madrid, Galdácano (Vizcaya) and Páramo de Masa (Burgos). The company also announced a modification in the working conditions, among which a salary reduction, to be proposed in the new upcoming collective agreement. Negotiations between the company and the work council (formed by UGT, CCOO, ELA and Maxam Independent Trade Union (SIX)) will start during February.
