Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Ineos, the UK-based chemical company has announced that it will close its acrylonitrile manufacturing plant near Stockton, in the North East of England, making 145 people redundant.
The director of the company said that production on the site was no longer safe and they decided that further investment would be too costly. They promised to support the 145 employees affected by the closure.
Local politicians denounced the decision to close the factory and offered to help workers gain ‘access to new opportunities’ in the region.
Ineos was founded in 1998 and the Ineos Group now includes 34 businesses in 26 countries.
