Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Abertis Autopistas España, the subsidiary of the Spanish toll management company, agreed with UGT and USO unions a labour force adjustment affecting 136 employees (all of them linked to toll collection on motorways). This decision comes after the current Spanish Government decided to make two important motorways (Valencia-Alicante and Seville-Cadiz) free to use, consequently terminating the Abertis concession which managed them.
Compensation agreed with unions is the maximum stipulated by law (45 days per year worked with a maximum of 42 months for workers hired before 2012, and 33 days per year worked with a maximum of 34 months for workers hired since 2012). In addition, the agreement includes other complementary measures: medical insurance for one year and special agreement foraffected workers who are 55 years old or older.
