Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
R1 RCM (former Intermedix Lithuania), a subsidiary of the US healthcare services group Intermedix Corporation, is to dismiss around 300 employees in its service centre in Kaunas in 2020. In 2018, Intermedix’s healthcare division was acquired by R1 RCM, one of the leading providers of technology-enabled revenue cycle management services. Intermedix’s subdivision in Kaunas took over the name of the new owner in 2019. However, after several months of operation, it was reported that R1 RCM made a decision to change the strategy in Lithuania and to reduce the scope of activities there. According to the management, the possibility of suspending activities in Lithuania is not excluded. Currently the service centre in Kaunas employs 474 employees.
R1 RCM is a leading provider of technology-enabled revenue cycle management services across hospitals, health systems and physician groups. The company has 32 branches in the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand and Lithuania and employs more than 2,500 workers worldwide.
