Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Specialised in battery recycling, Snam is starting to manufacture batteries from recycled materials at its Viviez site (Aveyron). Its research has borne fruit, and the company now wants to start manufacturing batteries from 80% recycled components. To keep pace with this development, the Snam will have to recruit massively. Nearly 700 people are expected to be recruited in the next six years. The company is looking for highly qualified technicians and engineers.
But, explains the manager, there is no school for battery manufacturing in France, so the company must prepare itself to train its employees and develop them. But the company is located in an employment area with a low unemployment rate: 7.1% unemployment, compared to 10% at the regional level. It is therefore difficult to find all this manpower nearby. Snam works with the public employment service to bring families from Ile-de-France.
