Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management and the works council of the German vehicle manufacturer Audi agreed on a restructuring programme 'Audi. Zukunft', which will cut 9,500 positions by 2025. Direct dismissals are excluded until 2029 due to a protection agreement between both sides. According to the employee representatives, the reduction would not include permanent positions. It is likely that the programme will affect temporary agency workers and that the job reduction will be realised by natural fluctuation, early retirement and voluntary termination of contracts. Additionally, the management and the works council expect that the current shift to e-mobility will create 2,000 new jobs by 2025.
