Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sada, the company specialised in processing poultry meat and subsidiary of the Nutreco Group, has reached an agreement with workers representatives for the closure of its plant in Lleida (Catalonia), affecting up to 240 employees (180 dismissal with equal compensations of a wrongful termination). 40 employees will be relocated in other plants of the company in Spain (together with relocation aids of €2000 and €600 per month during the first year). According to the company, the closure is due to the loss of a main client - Mercadona, leading supermarket chain in Spain - and sectoral difficulties. However, unions argue that part of the production process was transferred to Sweden, affecting viability of the plant.
This restructuring follows the workforce adjustment of the company in 2017 at its Lominchar (Toledo) plant which affected 158 workers.
