Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The clothing company Corneliani announced 130 redundancies in its Mantova plant. Dismissals are planned to take place by the end of 2020 and will affect both blue collar and white collar workers, respectively in the measure of 72 and 58 dismissals.
According to the company, the decision is due to adverse market conditions and irreversible changes in the sector that inevitably require new organisational and business models.
The trade unions deemed the plan as unacceptable and called the state of agitation with assemblies and strikes planned at least over November 6 and November 7.
Currently, Corneliani employs 454 workers at its production plant in Mantova.
