Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Atlas Dynamics is a Latvian technological company creating top tier drone based solutions. The founder of the company explains that the company wants to move production from China to Latvia as he found it is difficult to work in China and tell Chinese workers what is wrong. The company plans to build a plant in Riga (Latvia) and gradually move production lines from China back to Latvia. This new plant will employ around 1,000 people. In 2017, 5,000 drones will be made in China while at least 40 drones will be made in Latvia monthly. The company is not sure it will be able to find enough skilled people to work in its factory as there seems to be a shortage of skilled employees in Latvia. People employed in the production plant in Latvia are currently coming from abroad.
