Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Low-cost airline Norwegian announced its plans to close six out of its eight short-haul routes operated from its base in Madrid-Barajas. The decision is expected to result in a collective dismissal, affecting between 150 and 170 employees. The restructuring event comes after the company backed down from its plans to close bases in Tenerife South and Gran Canaria.
Trade union USO claims that the company informed employees at the very last minute (only 30 days in advance), despite having considered the decision for months prior. For this reason, the trade union warned that it does not rule out any type of counteraction, including a strike.
