Description
Cigarette manufacturing company British American Tobacco announced the dismissal of 180 employees in research and development at its site in Bayreuth, Bavaria within the upcoming two years. The restructuring event derives from the company's plan to make a total of 2,300 employees redundant worldwide. Indeed, the decision to reduce the workforce aims at compensating the decline in sales and at investing more in the manufacturing of e-cigarettes. The plan took the works council in Bayreuth by surprise; negotiations of a social plan are due to begin in September.
