Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Energy and gas distributor Spark Energy announced the creation of 100 new jobs at its site in Selkirk, Scottish Borders. The job creation involves both customer-facing and administrative roles from entry- to more experienced levels. Upon selection, new employees are expected to complete 115 hours of direct training and development and additional 75 hours of one-on-one support within their teams. The business expansion is planned to make a significant contribution to the local labour market.
The company employs around 400 people at the site and handles energy accounts for approximately 450,000 customers. After entering administration in November 2018 due to an investigation by the energy regulator, the company is now owned by Ovo Energy.
