Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Carimat Group, a Belgian group specialised in the distribution of building materials has filed for bankruptcy for most of its subsidiaries. The family owned business has been active for over 30 years but is forced to close its doors due to accumulating debts.
Due to the division of the group into several smaller subdisiaries no local trade union delegation had been established. Because of this, little information is made available and contact will mainly be on an individual basis between employees and the management. The types of dismissal, and arrangements that will be settled, for the employees losing their job is therefore unknown.
