Description

The Japanese car manufacturer Nissan Motor has announced to cut about a tenth of its workforce and to decide possible plant closures. Nissan will reduce at least 12,500 positions globally by March 2023 - its biggest job cuts since 2009 - and reduce production capacity, mainly of compact cars. In fact, already 6,400 positions have been cut since a first announcement May in eight facilities including in Spain - where trucks and vans are made - and Indonesia. The remaining 6,100 job will be cut from  September 2019 to March 2023. The company is targeting sites where Nissan made investments to produce compact cars under the Power 88 plan. A total of 14 facilities would be affected worldwide.

Nissan produces compact car models at facilities including in Mexico, Russia, France, and Thailand. Nissancut 20,000 positions worldwide in 2009.
