Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Royal Bank of Scotland announced plans to cut 150 positions in the site of Greenock (Inverclyde), which currently employs around 1,000 people. The reductions are expected to come from the 450 employees who deal with the company's mortgage customer contact and operations department. According to the company, the job reduction derives from the impact of digital technologies on bank operations. The company expects to achieve the reductions by opening a voluntary redundancy scheme. There is no information yet on the foreseen end date of the restructuring event.
