Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
US e-hailing platform Uber plans to recruit 200 people to work in its technologic centre based in Lisbon by the end of 2019. The centre is already staffed with 400 workers and provides assistance to its drivers, users of the platform and restaurants which are associated to the sister app Uber Eats.
Around 8,000 drivers work for Uber in Portugal and the food delivery Uber Eats has more than 2,000 associated restaurants based in 19 towns.
