Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German camera manufacturer Leica will be cutting 100 jobs at its headquarters in Wetzlar due to internal restructuring. Cuts will mainly take place in development and marketing. The job reduction is part of a major restructuring, with the goal to focus more digitalisation, including computational imaging. Therefore, the company intends to invest in the recruitment of 40 digital experts. Management announced that the job reduction will be as socially acceptable as possible. However, an exact timeframe and more details regarding the reduction have yet to be announced.
Currently, Leica has 800 employees in Wetzlar.
