Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German pharmaceutical company IDT Biologika will be cutting up to 300 jobs at its site in Dessau-Roßlau due to internal restructuring. The job reduction is part of a major restructuring programme, which includes the sale of the company’s animal health division by 1 July 2019. The company plans to reduce its number of employees from 1,900 to 1,600. A timeframe for the planned cuts has yet to be announced. The company intends to make this job reduction as socially acceptable as possible. This will be achieved via early-retirement programmes and not extending the contracts of temporary workers.
