Description
The supplier of automotive components related to diesel engines, Bosch, announced 620 redundancies at its Modugno (Bari) plant.
According to the company, the reorganisation plan envisaged for the plant and the connected 620 redundancies are related to the crisis of the diesel market, which has caused a significant contraction in revenues, and the need for the company to initiate a production reconversion plan.
The announcement was made during the crisis table convened in Rome at the Ministry of Economic Development, attended by the company, trade unions and the Puglia Region.
The restructuring plan was deemed as unacceptable by both the regional administration and by the trade unions. The trade unions are urgently demanding ambitious investments in the conversion to electric cars, promised since 2017 but, they say, only minimally implemented. The Puglia Region says it is willing to finance the necessary training courses if they fit into a long term industrial plan.
Currently, Bosch employs 1,840 workers at the Modugno plant.
