Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Indian IT consulting company HCL has formally submitted a notification to the Swedish Public Employment Service, which provides for the dismissal of 250 positions in Sweden from the company's subsidiary Global Shared Services (GSS). However, the company expects the final number to be lower. The job reductions aim at reducing the production costs of GSS, meeting the company's financial challenges. It is expected that the positions will be offshored to India.
The company believes the new organisation within GSS will be effective as of 1 September 2019. Those employees who are planned to be dismissed will be informed by 24 June 2019.
