Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The pen and lighter manufacturer Bic has announced about 100 jobs cuts at its head office in Clichy (Haut-de-Seine). The job cuts will be implemented at the end of 2019. The group explains that its profitability deteriorated in 2018 in a difficult market environment. This reorganization was decided as part of a global transformation plan that includes approximately 450 job cuts worldwide (see ERM FS) and the creation of 400 new positions. Faced with more aggressive competition, the group's profitability deteriorated last year, with a 1.5 % in its operating margin to 18.1%. The French manufacturer currently has 13,600 employees worldwide, including 1,800 in France.
