Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has confirmed that its Fiddler's Ferry power station near Warrington will close, which will result in the loss of 158 jobs. SSE has said that the site is loss making and, as a coal-fired power station, does not feature in the firm's long-term plans. SSE has said that it will try to mitigate the need for compulsory redundancies by considering opportunities for redeployment across the group, as well as offering voluntary redundancy packages. The final closure of the site is set for the end of March 2020.
