Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German based Mahle has announced plans to close its manufacturing site in Telford, Shropshire. The closure of the site which manufactures car components, will result in the loss of 180 jobs. The statutory process of consultation with trade unions is expected to begin shortly. The company has stated that the site is no longer viable, citing a decline in orders which is expected to continue. The consultation will explore ways of minimising the impact on the staff affected by the decision.
Globally, Mahle employs 79,000 people over 30 countries.
