Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
State Forestry Enterprise, a state-owned enterprise which organises and co-ordinates the activities of forest regeneration, maintenance, protection and rational use of forest resources intends to dismiss 114 employees in Kaunas. The company has already handed out layoff notices to all 114 employees. The main cause of the dismissals is the reorganisation of the state forest sector in Lithuania which started at the beginning of 2018. Since the beginning of the reorganisation, the State Forestry Enterprise has already dismissed 157 employees who did not agree to work under the changed conditions (see previous case State Forestry Enterprise 2018 LT). Currently State Forestry Enterprise employs 3,528 employees.
