Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The retail group Gruppo Grancasa confirmed 158 redundancies initiated through different collective dismissal procedures by several companies belonging to the group (Grancasa S.p.A., Mercatone di Desenzano, S.r.l., Mercatone of Umbria S.r.l. and Gest Due S.r.l.). The Sarzana shop will dimiss 12 out of 47 workers.
The trade unions complained that the company refused any attempt to find alternative solutions to dismissals and rejected all the proposals that the union delegation advanced at various meetings at the crisis unit of the Ministry of Economic Development. Two days of strike were announced by the unions for May 26 and 27 in the hope that these initiatives may foster further negotiations.
