Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In December 2018, the Greek Public Power Corporation (DEI SA) decided to sell its lignite units in Megalopolis, Arcadia and Meliti, Florina. Part of the sale plan included a reduction of the operational costs through the implementation of a voluntary retirement programme. The programme involved 273 employees (244 from Megalopolis and 29 from Meliti). The right to participate was restricted to those nearing retirement or having completed 20-year service within specific age ranges that varied by occupation. The programme included an additional personal bonus of € 25,000
