Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The civil engineering company Galliford Try has announced plans to dismiss around 350 employees. The company which is involved in major infrastructure projects had issued a statement earlier in April 2019 warning that profits were expected to be around GBP 30-40 million lower than the previously projected GBP 156 million. It is understood that the majority of the job cuts will take place in Scotland, though the restructure affects jobs across the UK in the investments and construction divisions. It is not known when the job cuts are expected to take place, though the statutory period of consultation is reportedly underway.
