Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
REHAU, the Germany-based plastics manufacturer has announced that it will close its plant in Amlwch, North Wales by the end of 2019, making more than 100 employees redundant. A spokesperson commented that the company concentrates on supporting the staff through this challenging period. The Member of Parliament representing the area supported that he was very disappointed about the decision, which was made after a three-month consultation with employees. The factory has operated in Amlwch for more than 40 years and its main product is a PVC polymer which is used on furniture. The company employs 500 people in UK and Ireland.
