Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Airbus subsidiary, Premium Aerotec, will be cutting up to 1,100 jobs in Augsburg due to internal restructuring in the mid-term. According to the works council, management announced a new restructuring programme which includes the loss of more than 1,000 jobs (up to 1,100) until 2023. The union strongly opposes those plans and criticised Aerotec’s lack of vision. Management emphasised that the job reduction will be as socially acceptable as possible. Furthermore, management and works council will start discussions on how to make the Augsburg plant competitive for the future. Currently, Aerotec has 3,600 employees in Augsburg.
