Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Santalucía Group has announced the closure of 53 call centres of the total 58 of the entire Accepta División de Seguros national network, affecting 900 employees. The company will concentrate its call centre activity in only five work centres: Madrid, Oviedo, Sevilla, Valencia and Hospitalet. Despite the closure, the company has offered all employees mobility plans to join the five centres that will remain open. However, the workers' representatives describe this decision as suppressed dismissal, since it is unfeasible to place all the workers in the existing work centres. Finally, the workers' representatives state that company does not face any financial issue so as to justify the restructuring decision.
