Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The marble and granite multinational company Levantina announced a collective dismissal plan that initially would affect 307 workers in the work centers of Pontevedra and especially in the Novelda quarry (Alicante). Negotiations with workers' representatives have reduced the proposed number of dismissals to 253. This collective dismissal plan comes with a proposal to change the working conditions of employees who remain. This would entail that they need to adapt to the new production plan. These announcements are the first decisions of the new president of the group. This plan for collective dismissal is the third in the last ten years in Levantina: 200 employees in 2009 and 100 employees in 2012.
