Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German tyre manufacturer Goodyear Dunlop announced on 19th March 2019 that 1,100 employees will be dismissed in Germany due to internal restructuring until 2022. Goodyear Dunlop plans to invest €106 million to automate its production in Hanau and Fulda, in order to become more competitive in the future. In Hanau 610 of 1,400 jobs will be cut and in Fulda 490 of 1,520 jobs. The job reduction is planned to be as socially acceptable as possible.
Currently, Goodyear Dunlop has 6,400 employees in Germany and 64,000 employees in all over the world.
