Description
Poundstretcher, the UK-based discount retailer chain has announced that it will close one of its warehouses in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, with the loss of about 120 warehousing jobs. A representative of the company said that all affected workers had been offered the opportunity to relocate to the company’s new warehouse and headquarters in Desford, Leicester, East Midlands, which is more than 140 kilometres away. The spokesperson added that they were discussing ‘redundancy issues’ with the staff in Huddersfield.
The reason for closing the Huddersfield warehouse is that the company wants to 'consolidate' its warehousing. It is also reported that 125 new jobs, including warehousing and office positions, will be created in Desford. The changes will take 3-6 months to complete.
