Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Through the opening of a mobility procedure, the road maintenance company Pavimental announced the dismissal of 209 workers employed in road maintenance activities to be carried out from June 2019.
A social shock absorber scheme put in place to alleviate the crisis faced by the company after the expiry of the maintenance contract with Autostrade per l'Italia at the end of 2017 is supporting 277 maintenance workers. The social shock absorber scheme will come to an end in June 2019 for 209 workers, whom will be dismissed afterwards.
The trade unions declared a state of permanent mobilisation in order to find an adequate solution.
