Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German furniture manufacturer confirmed on 4 February 2019, the loss of 250 jobs due to internal restructuring. According to Rauch, cuts are necessary due to the increasing significance of online commerce which will result in the creation of new jobs in the foreseeable future. Mainly affected will be employees at Rauch’s sites Freudenberg and Bürgstadt. Both sites combine to 1,300 employees. Rauch regrets the job reduction but assured its employees that cuts will be made as socially acceptable as possible. An exact timeframe has yet to be announced.
Currently Rauch has 1,700 employees in Germany.
