Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tulip, one of the UK's largest meat producers, has announced plans to close its site in Boston, Lincolnshire. This will result in the loss of 464 jobs. The decision follows the end of a contract with high street store Marks and Spencer and Tulip have not been successful in securing a new deal. A consultation process is due to start, though it has been reported that unless new contracts can be signed then the factory is set to close in August 2019.
Previous restructurings took place in 2018 (150 jobs lost), 2017 (118 jobs lost) and 2016 (430 jobs lost).
