Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food manufacturer Bakkavor has announced plans to close one of its sites in Lincolnshire. The decision to close the operations near Spalding will result in the loss of 680 jobs, though Bakkavor has said that it is likely that 520 employees will be offered alternative employment within the group. A 45 day consultation over the proposed job losses will start, though subject to that consultation it has already been announced that the closure of the site is planned for April 2019. A previous restructuring took place in 2018, when 200 jobs were created.
