Description
Pharmacy chain Boots has announced plans to cut jobs at its headquarters in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. The company, which is the largest private employer in Nottinghamshire with about 5,800 at the Beeston site, will place around 800 roles into the statutory 45 day consultation period, and it has stated that it expects to lose between 300 and 350 of these roles. The company has said that it will look to lessen the impact of the redundancies by looking at redeployment, natural attrition and flexible working. There is no information on when the cuts are expected to take place.
Trade union USDAW reacted with disappointment at the news and urged Boots to engage with the union in a meaningful sense. Reports suggest that unions may be bypassed for the purposes of collective consultation with it being noted that there will be elections for employee representative posts. Previous restructurings took place in 2017 (400 jobs lost) and 2016 (300 jobs lost).
