Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Husky-KTW, an international manufacturer of injection moulding systems and machines, with headquarters in Bolton, Canada, has announced plans to close its plant in Waidhofen an der Thaya, Lower Austria, by the end of 2019. From the 240 employees on the site, the closure will probably affect the 196 people working in production. The company will transfer production to its plants in the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Canada, but will keep a service centre with 30 to 40 employees in Waidhofen. Negotiations between management and works council regarding a comprehensive social plan including a labour foundation are underway.
