Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Challenger bank Starling has announced plans to create 398 new jobs in the UK. The jobs are being supported by a 100 million GBP grant (€117 million) from the Capability and Innovation Fund. The first reports contained little information on the nature and location of the jobs, but subsequent reports have suggested that there will be new offices in Southampton which will house 150 staff, the majority of whom will be new recruits to the company. These staff will be in customer support (100 positions) and software engineer roles (50 positions). The new office in Southampton will be open sometime in the summer of 2019. There is no further information about where and when the remainder of the jobs will be created.
