Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The manufacturer of handbags and leather products, Texier, has announced the recruitment of 100 leather goods crafters within two years at Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine). After many economic difficulties, Texier was taken over by the Renaissance group in 2015. The group has invested €100,000 in this site to modernise the plant. Thanks to the commercial success of 'Les Georgettes' bracelets, the company has taken over 82 people it had previously dismissed and now has more than 90 employees.
The company also produces travel and business bags (60% of turnover) and is still a subcontractor for major luxury brands (15%). The director announced that he wanted to recruit 100 leather goods makers within two years. To achieve this, Texier will create its own training centre this summer.
