Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Bombardier plant in Crespin (Nord), which manufactures a new generation of train for the Parisian Region rail network (RER) has announced the recruitment of around 100 employees. To meet its deadlines, the plant will double a production line and hire around 100 more people to honour one of the contracts concluded with the Ile-de-France region.
Two years ago, Bombardier and Alstom signed the 'contract of the century' with the Ile-de-France Regional Council and SNCF; a contract worth €3.75 billion to jointly manufacture new generation RER trains (RER-NG) for the Ile-de-France network. The target is 255 trains in total, with the first deliveries due in 2021. At Bombardier, 350 out of 2,200 people are currently working on these new trains.
