Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Construction company Amey has announced plans to cut 100 jobs from its workforce. The job cuts follow disputes about payment for the upgrade to the Great Western mainline project, which is the project to upgrade the rail line between London and Cardiff. According to reports there have already been some voluntary redundancies, though these will now be supplemented by some compulsory redundancies. Therefore the true redundancy figure will be much higher than the 100 affected by the compulsory scheme. The restructure is expected to be complete by the end of March 2019.
