Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
American textile manufacturer Hanes Global Supply Chain Romania has announced the dismissal of 1,000 employees from its plant in Curtici, Arad County. According to data from the Ministry of Finance, in 2017 the company recorded a turnover of RON 203 million (€42 million) and a profit of RON 7.3 million (€1.5 million). The redundancies are taking place due to the shortage of skilled workforce and the decrease in the number of orders for the company’s products.
Globally, Hanesbrands Group has a workforce of about 65,000 people in various parts of Europe, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France and Spain.
